Overview
Children’s author and illustrator Ruth Walton specialises in information books for 6-8 year olds. Her first book series, Let’s Find Out, is an innovative collection of six non-fiction books published by Franklin Watts. Through a blend of quirky collaged illustrations, photographs and lively text, each book helps children to find out about the world around them and beyond.
Ruth’s third publication ‘Let’s Read a Book’ is the basis for her visiting workshop for primary schools and libraries. Through interactive learning, many questions are answered- When was writing invented? What did people write with in the past? What does writing look like around the world? After time spent looking at artifacts and finding out about paper and print, Ruth will assist the children to create a simple book using recycled materials and help the to find the inspiration to fill it with words and pictures!
Experience
Ruth has run workshops in schools and libraries across the UK. She was a visiting author at Birmingham Young Readers Festival in 2010 and has delivered her ‘Let’s Make a Book’ workshop to hundreds of children.
Ruth’s book Let’s Ride a Bike’ was nominated for the 2010 School Library Association Information Award and received a commendation.
